The owners of this Arts and Crafts period property in Chesham Bois, dating back to around 1910, loved the original proportions of the house, but they required more open plan living space on the ground floor, that was easily accessible to the sloping garden.
The most practical way to achieve this was to extend to the side of the property. This enabled me to design a substantial kitchen that opened into the existing rear living room, creating a beautiful light and airy space, with a utility room and shower room attached. I incorporated an outside decking area, accessed by large glazed doors opening out onto a decking area. I factored a large lantern and clever lighting into the design, making the space beautifully light throughout the day.
